Digital ID: sign and protect your emails

Digital ID is a GlobalSign PersonalSign certificate for your email. It uses the S/MIME standard to sign messages and encrypt confidential communications. It is useful for professionals, businesses and anyone exchanging important information by email.

What you can do

• Sign emails: recipients can verify the signature associated with your email address and check whether a message has changed since it was signed.
• Protect message content: encryption lets recipients read the message using their private key. To send an encrypted email, you first need the recipient's S/MIME certificate.

What you need

An email account and an email application that supports S/MIME. Check support in the version you use: availability in webmail and on mobile devices depends on the application and its configuration.

Getting started

1. Purchase the certificate and complete the email address verification required for issuance.
2. Install the certificate in your email application and keep a protected backup of the certificate and private key.
3. Enable message signing; to use encryption, exchange public certificates with your contacts first.

The available product is PersonalSign 1, with email address verification. You use the certificate with your existing mailbox; an S/MIME signature verifies the message's origin against the certificate and checks its integrity.
